Our skull is designed to enable us to breathe, chew, swallow, speak and smile. The cranium of a human is made up of 22 bones, including the braincase and facial bones.

The upper and lower jaw bones are crucial for shaping the face, enabling chewing, and forming the airways. These two bones are undeniably significant.

Many people think the jaw is just a mechanical device that allows us to grind and chew food. Still, the truth is that it does much more and has a significant effect on every other organ in the body.

The Upper Jaw

Suppose the upper jaw fails to develop normally in one of the three dimensions of growth (height, width, depth). In that case, it can lead to problems such as airway obstruction, crooked teeth and impacted wisdom teeth. At the age of about 12 years, the upper molars develop in the posterior part of the upper jaw. As part of this process, the sinus is reshaped, with part of its outline turning into bone, which will accommodate the upper molars (wisdom teeth). 

If the remodelling is not done correctly, molars might not have sufficient space to come through and get stuck. This is why many individuals require surgery to remove impacted molars, particularly when they exert excessive force on the front teeth.

Abnormal development of the upper and lower jaw also leads to crooked teeth. Simply put, the jawbones are the bases where the teeth must grow. When the base is not the right size or is distorted in some way, the teeth cannot grow in balance. The upper and lower jaws are like the concrete base of the seats in a stadium. 

If the cement is deteriorated or the base is too small, the seats cannot be placed in aligned rows. They end up crowding or sticking out. Because the bones of the skull are so closely connected, a deformity in the upper jaw can cause problems in other areas of the face and head, such as the eye sockets and nasal sinuses. If the upper jaw is not developed typically, the eye sockets may be underdeveloped, distorting the eyeball and leading to vision problems such as astigmatism or myopia.

A deformity in the upper jaw can reduce oxygen intake. Humans collect oxygen mainly through nasal breathing. To ensure oxygenation and ventilation, a necessary condition is the free air passage from the air cavities to the nasal chambers and lungs, and vice versa. 

A standard nasal passage is designed to slow airflow into the sinuses, warming and humidifying the air and allowing it to mix with nitric oxide (NO), increasing oxygen uptake. – spawn in the lungs. When a person breathes through the mouth, their lungs are dry, the air is not filtered, and there is no nitric oxide.

This means that their body is constantly deprived of oxygen, the lack of which can damage their heart muscle, brain tissue and potentially every cell in their body. Abnormal formation of the upper jaw can also lead to a crooked nasal septum and narrowing and obstruction of the nasal passages. 

When a person has a high palate with crooked upper teeth, their ability to breathe through the nose can be reduced. One way to enhance the proper amount of oxygen intake is to perform appropriate muscle-functional therapy exercises for the mouth, tongue, and jaw.

The Lower Jaw

The lower jaw is the largest and strongest bone in the face. It contains the lower teeth and is connected to the base of the skull through the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). Additionally, the lower jaw provides the bony support for the muscles that support and control the tongue and throat, which are essential for swallowing and breathing. During puberty, the lower jaw grows in width, length and height. Like the upper jaw, any issues with the lower jaw can also cause sleep apnea and breathing difficulties. While the maxilla bone forms the nasal airways, the mandible influences the formation of the lower airways (pharynx, larynx, trachea and soft palate).

The tongue comprises a complex group of muscles attached to the lower jaw, the soft palate, and the horseshoe-shaped hyoid bone at the front of the throat. These muscles of the tongue act as a supporting structure for the airway of the mouth. At rest, the tongue should remain on the palate, keeping the oral airway open. However, when the palate is narrow, the tongue remains in the lower part of the mouth, and the muscles do not keep the airway open to perform the breathing function. 

There is also less room for the tongue when the lower jaw cannot adequately accommodate the wisdom teeth. This can lead to poor tongue position, which rests in the back of the throat instead of the top of the mouth, and cause a decrease in muscle tone. A tongue lacking muscle tone can impede breathing, depriving the lungs of critical oxygen. This condition can worsen during sleep, leading to pressing human health problems such as sleep apnea (interruptions in breathing during sleep).

The scientific community has proven that the early experiences and perinatal psychology of a fetus can affect its health and development, including the morphology and health of its teeth. The fetus senses and responds to the mental states of its mother, including the feelings and love shown to it by its parents.
As I mention in my book “What the teeth say about us | Hidden feelings and emotions, childhood memories and family issues, connections between our teeth and organs.”:

“The prenatal experiences of the fetus have an important place in the child’s development, as they are responsible for both his emotional and social and cognitive development. The psychosomatic state of the mother is vital for the baby’s psychology.

Prenatal psychology is a multidimensional science that examines a person’sperson’s intrauterine experience and investigates its impact on their life. Furthermore, it reveals everything that has been recorded in his consciousness from conception to the end of breastfeeding (about 3-4 years), decisively determining his behaviour as an adult, his physical health, his mental balance, the quality of relationships that it also outlines the course of his evolution as a human being.

Oral health, in general, is the result of a delicate balance of complex mechanisms interacting with the environment.
All imbalances during human development impact general and oral health, as well as the eruption and growth of teeth, and are responsible for the pathological conditions that appear on the teeth.

It all starts with pregnancy.

All the research proves the correctness of Dr Michel Odent’sOdent’s conclusion: “Primary health, i.e. the physical and mental health of man, is established during the period of the close relationship with the mother, i.e. during the nine months of pregnancy, the critical hours of birth and the period of breastfeeding.”
It has been proven how the psychology of the pregnant woman turns into a physical state in the fetus which later presents various physical disharmonies.
According to Dr Thomas Verny, intrauterine life determines man’sman’s relationship with himself, his fellow man, and the planet Earth. Ecology can’tcan’t exist in the World without Ecology having pre-existed in the womb. His research and conclusions emphasize the environment of the child’s embryo. Respect for the environment begins from intrauterine life!
The fetus senses the mother’smother’s thoughts.
A mother’s thoughts, ideas, and emotions about her child significantly impact their development. These internalized images can greatly influence their growth and well-being.
The effect of the mother’smother’s thoughts on the fetus was also investigated by the French university researcher Marie-Claire Busnel, who said: “The fetus reacts to speech as well as to the mother’smother’s thought when this thought has a clarity and intensity.”
The pregnant woman is a shaper! The images and thoughts about the child leave impressions on him, shaping his existence.

Indifference, lack of desire for birth or even rejection of its gender by parents can be traumatic experiences for the fetus. According to research, these adverse effects can have long-term impacts on a person’sperson’s psychology and overall health, including their teeth.

All lead to the conclusion that the thoughts and feelings of the pregnant woman and the father, which constitute the first intrauterine environment, determine which properties of the genes will be expressed and which will remain silent.

The sensory development of the fetus

When it is born, the baby carries within it, together with its hereditary wealth, all the experiences it lived in the womb. Intrauterine experiences will affect their relationship with their mother, future perceptions and preferences, and character, in other words, the rest of their lives. Science is extending further and further back to the roots of human life to find answers to many questions, to illuminate points still obscure in the formation of mental disorders and disorders, and to obtain a complete picture of the evolutionary history of man.

The image that the fetus is no longer a passive creature growing up in an entirely protective environment, awaiting “real life”, but a small being with specific characteristics, active, sensitive, and constantly influenced by the mother prompts parents to relate to their child already from the period of pregnancy. Their educational role starts from then, and the positive contact with the fetus seems particularly useful for their later relationship. In the nine months of pregnancy, the fetus grows and matures in all its functions.
The role of prenatal psychology
Prenatal psychology emphasizes the importance of the early mother-child relationship, already in the womb, as a basis for their later ordinary course and healthy character formation. The pregnancy’s joy, the baby’s acceptance, and satisfaction are transmitted to the fetus. They are, therefore, valuable mental food. The mother communicates with the fetus in many ways. The first way of communication is purely physical.
From conception, the mother’s body adapts to the new needs and provides the fetus with everything it needs to grow. Diet, medication, smoking, and the use of alcoholic or narcotic substances play a crucial role in the healthy physical maturation of the fetus, with possible consequences in the development of its life.
In summary, the healthy development of the fetus’s teeth is influenced by many factors, such as genetic inheritance, the mother’s prenatal psychological conditions, diet, habits, and family relationships.
The fetus does not ask for much: only love and acceptance. In this way, the daily anxiety and fear problems are overcome and transformed into a life force.
Strengthening the information and education of mothers about the importance of perinatal psychology during pregnancy can contribute to the prevention of general and dental health problems of the child from the beginning of his life.

Why do symptoms repeat themselves? 

Have you noticed any problems with your teeth that have been following you for years? 

Something helpfull about this situation is that if we  could remember the history of our teeth , and the way that is this connected with our experiences  during our life. 

A story of my own

At the teenage age of 13, I had my first filling on the first molar on the lower left tooth. This tooth holds the number 36 in the mouth  which is represents the  emotional relationship with the mother, as well  it represents the  element of metal in chinese medicine which is related emotianally with sadness and grief. Ten years later, the tooth decayed, and I had to remake the filling. 

Then, after two years and experiencing a severe toothache, I had to do a root canal  treatment .a new filling  and  a crown . 

Over the next three years, the tooth fractured, broke, and I had to have it extracted. Then I got an implant, which caused me many problems integrating it with the jawbone, not knowing what might come next, and so on. 

Does this repetition in my tooth story remind you of anything? 

What happens to us when we have such repeated incidents? 

Do we need to dig deeper to find the natural causes of this destructive pattern? 

So let’s look at the story from the beginning: 

The first message to decode comes through tooth decay and filling in  36. This tooth represents the emotional connection to the mother, the relation to the lung and colon meridian, and the feeling of grief and separation in mourning. 

To better comprehend the message, I considered these significant questions: 

What had happened in that period of my life, the beginning of adolescence?  

What traumatic experience of mine is this tooth decay associated with? 

In my case, I remember being in a period of grief because of a loss that my whole family was experiencing at that time. My father’s house was severely damaged after intense earthquake activity in my hometown. So we were forced to move and demolish it. 

We managed to rebuild it after many attempts made by my mother. This experience was accompanied by intense sadness, despair, insecurity and separation. 

Symbolically, to refer back to the dental symptom, all this suggests the following message: 

“The space of my residence is changing dramatically.” 

 This has an impact, respectively, on my mouth and tooth space. 

 

Following two years full of terrible tensions at home, with financial problems, great sadness and anger on the part of my mother, but also many conflicts during my teenage life, my tooth faces a  severe toothache. Thus, the nerve of my tooth is getting died. A new feeling is made after root canal treatment, and a crown is placed. to support the tooth. 

When the house construction is almost completed, I move to another city due to studies. There, as I experience grief and separation again, new symptoms arise in my tooth, which now is tooth fracture and, ultimately, destruction of it. After all extraction, the story continues… 

An example of tooth disharmony

Let’s say a person with a severe toothache in a tooth visits his dentist, who diagnoses him that the damage to the nerve has progressed too much due to inflammation. So, he needs to have root canal treatment. 

The mere admission that there is an inflammation in the mouth and teeth testifies that there is an internal war in this person. This conflict within him may concern professional, personal, family, or any other situation, but it is always connected to profound traumatic experiences. 

The above leads the body to fight to survive the injury, ultimately causing inflammation. 

The mouth is the mirror of our physical, emotional and mental health

The psychosomatic symptoms that can appear in the period of adulthood have their roots much earlier, in the first stages of the person’s life. In these stages, internal emotional conflicts that do not resolve and cannot be managed by the person lay the foundation for future problems. The path each person chooses at this stage depends on their own individual history.  

When the mouth is hushed, the body cries out, hurts, and thus reacts to the battle going on inside. Pains (wounds) begin when speech expression is blocked. Any pathology of the teeth constitutes a violation of the sacred space and its vital functions and a cancellation of a human capacity or quality. 

How can I deal with the recurring symptoms that arise in my mouth? 

Exploring and looking back on my life timeline helps me be aware of and face the trauma imprinted on my body and influence my general health. So I can understand deeply  the  behaviour pattern that  my body and mouth  has adopted to response in every loss, grief and separation I experience in my life. 

More specifically, the pain and destruction in the area of tooth 36 will help me connect with my traumatic history, accept it with love. Thus, I will be able to proceed with  treatment safely, without side effects reminding me of the message that the tooth sends and without the risk of a recurrence of the symptom. 

Then, with the help of systemic constellation therapy that focuses in solution all the entanglements in my relationships within the family are illuminated and discovered.  The order of love  now  are restored in all systems i am part of: In my mouth, body and i my family and the theraputic journey  gets  started with safety 

It is, therefore, essential to broaden our  perception of our bodies and relationships on all levels. In this way, we can understand and embrace the complexity of our existence.

Treat tooth decay in natural ways. 

Some useful information 

Fluoride is one of the 92 chemical elements on earth and belongs to the halogen family. All substances resulting from the union of fluoride with other chemical elements are described under the common name of fluorine compounds or fluorides. 

Fluorides are essential byproducts of heavy industry, mainly aluminium, used initially as pesticides. 

After the Second World War, fluoride and fluorinated compounds became increasingly important in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry, which is still the case today. 

In its most widespread form, we find it in the freon used in air conditioners and refrigerators (chlorinated fluorocarbon) and in the Teflon used as a coating on cookware (polytetrafluoroethylene). 

Fluorides are also used in medicine as an ingredient: 

• General anaesthesia and other anaesthetics, [Change text wrapping]Many drugs, mainly psychotropics 
• Children’s vitamins 

• Most dental consumables, such as toothpaste, mouthwash and dental floss. 
• Finally, they are present in many foods such as canned goods, concentrated juices, cereals, etc. 

A known poison

As described in the Journal of American Medical Association [JAMA], fluorides are protoplasmic poisons that affect the permeability of the cell membrane and inhibit the action of various enzymes. 

Although this is true, they are allowed to be present in water, food and other products of daily use because they protect against tooth decay. 

Caries disease

Caries destroy the hard tissues of the teeth, i.e. their enamel. Specifically, it is caused by the acids produced by microbes and food residues, which lead to the loss of salts from the surfaces of the teeth. 

If treated slowly, salts such as calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, manganese, copper and iron continue to be recovered with the risk of destroying the entire tooth. Dental caries is a calcium metabolism disorder affecting the whole human skeletal system.

The position of the International Scientific Organization for Oral Health and Toxicology

The [IAOMT] International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology], of which I am a member, maintains that oral fluoride in the form of tablets, gels or drops and water fluoridation is ineffective in fighting tooth decay and dangerous to general health. 

Several research and epidemiological studies, such as Dr John Yiamouyiannis and Dr Dean Burke, have sufficiently documented this view. 

Additionally, as claimed by Dr James Summer, a Nobel laureate biochemist at Corneil University, the high content of fluorapatite in tooth enamel observed after topical fluoride application is not certain to cause caries reversal. Accordingly, it destroys the enzymes of the bacteria that cause acids and other valuable enzymes in the body’s tissues. 

Thus, fluoride, instead of contributing, interferes with and burdens the natural function of the mouth to protect us. 

According to the IAOMT, fluoride affects the nervous system by inhibiting the action of the enzyme acetylcholinesterase. This enzyme participates in the transmission of the nerve signal in the brain and its absence creates neurological and psychological disorders related to learning difficulties, problems concentrating, memory problems, a decrease in IQ, and even movement disorders. 

It also inhibits the ability of white blood cells to activate and destroy germs and viruses. It causes oxidative stress at the intracellular level. It disrupts collagen synthesis in many tissues, such as skin, bones, tendons, muscles and cartilage, and the lungs, trachea and kidneys. 

It has been observed to delay the eruption of permanent teeth in children, a process that coexists with their psychological maturation due to disturbances in the jaw bone. Chronic exposure and accumulation in the body have been associated with a higher incidence of epithelial, bone and thyroid cancers. 

Treat tooth decay naturally.

Tooth decay can be proven to be treated through the holistic approach that includes natural ways as well as diagnostic methodologies for its correct diagnosis and treatment, such as: 

1. Clean teeth surface with proper brushing after every meal.

Additionally, for better prevention, you can coat the surface of teeth with coconut butter. It has a potent antimicrobial and antifungal effect, tastes good and protects the teeth, especially in young children and people with oral hygiene difficulties. Finally, a small amount of cranberry juice daily helps effectively prevent tooth decay. 

2. Daily nutrition

Avoid products containing sugar, white flour and cola-type soft drinks. They contain phosphoric acid that binds and removes calcium, magnesium, zinc and other minerals from the teeth, causing their hard substance to soften and dissolve. 

This diet is essential to be followed by the mother during pregnancy and breastfeeding because then the seeds of the teeth are created in the fetus, and their future development is affected. 

3. Check for any lack of vitamins, minerals and trace elements with a general blood test.

The above elements nourish the teeth through blood circulation in the capillaries and the tooth’s pulp. Teeth are specialized bone tissue that is nurtured, like all bones, by blood circulation. 

With the help of suitable preparations, you can make up for your deficiencies and strengthen your bones and teeth gradually through their remineralization. 

4. Keep the PH of saliva neutral (around 7)

A study by Newcastle University U.K. showed that excessive acidity in the mouth, which occurs due to various digestive problems or a specific dietary choice, demineralizes the teeth. Accordingly, excessive alkalinity increases stone formation. 

The pH of the saliva can be measured using unique strips and is affected by many factors, such as the type of diet followed, the lack of vitamins and trace elements and the burden the person has from stress or other psychological problems. 

5. Dental fluid

The teeth are not only a hard substance but are made up of thousands of dental tubules in which the dental fluid (something like lymph) circulates their self-healing mechanism essentially. This fact is responsible for the exchange of valuable substances as well as toxins between tooth and mouth. 

Dental fluid is controlled by the secretion of hormones such as those secreted by the parotid [salivary gland of the mouth] but also by the secretion of melatonin produced in the human brain’s pineal gland. The good functioning of the endocrine system plays a dominant role in maintaining the body’s homeostasis and the teeth’ health. 

6. Take care of your physical, mental and spiritual health.

Anything necessary for general health is also essential for good dental health. Through my many years of experience, I recommend the following: 

• Acupuncture,
• Homoeopathy,
• Herbal therapy,
• Psychotherapy,
• Self-improvement methods and
• Meditation exercises for psychosomatic health. 

7. Quality of saliva and digestive process

It is vital to ensure good quality and flow of saliva. Additionally, make sure to chew your food correctly so that it is moistened with saliva, which aids in digestion. 

Saliva moistens the surfaces of the teeth and ensures, together with the dental fluid, the exchange of valuable substances and toxins between the teeth and the mouth and vice versa. 

Factors that cause dry mouth and decreased salivation are smoking, excessive alcohol intake, various medications, radiation therapy, stress and other mental disorders. 

You can improve the quality of saliva by daily washing with sesame oil for about 5 minutes which you do not swallow after washing because it absorbs many toxins from the teeth. 

8. Use natural organic products for the daily care of your oral hygiene

Make, with an easy recipe, your organic toothpaste with natural ingredients![Change text wrapping] 

Mix the following ingredients well: 

• 6 teaspoons of baking soda [pure without aluminium impurities] 
• 2 spoons of organic coconut butter and a few drops of essential oil of your choice. 
• Lemon essential oil makes toothpaste palatable and whitens teeth. 

If the paste you made seems watery, add a little soda, and on the contrary, if it looks thick, a few more drops of essential oil. To keep the toothpaste ingredients active, make small amounts and store them away from light in the refrigerator.

Have you wondered why the symptoms in our teeth and gums are repeated? For example, you have a tooth that has decayed. You go to the dentist, get a filling and think the problem is fixed. 

Within three months, the tooth gets a toothache. You go to the dentist, and they suggest root canal treatment. In a few months, something happens while chewing and half of the tooth breaks. You revisit the dentist for that particular tooth. This time, he suggests you put on a crown or a bridge, and that’s it. 

So you get to the point where one treatment is repeated after another. But how does this relate to your psycho-emotional state? Does the tooth want to tell us something? Does he have a message to convey from our souls? 

Have you ever thought that the message the tooth sends us, through all the disharmony it repeatedly displays, wants to help us understand and correct a situation?

The Crystal Tooth Psychodynamic Approach approach 

The teeth psychodynamic approach is a methodology I have invented to help people during their dental treatment with the dentist of their choice. 

This method is a holistic approach that tries to find the root of the problem. For this reason, it collects information from all levels of our being, emotional, mental, and physical.

It is suitable for the therapist to recognize in the first phase what makes it difficult for the patient to see the presented obstacles and propose new coping methods. 

In this way and with respect for the person, fertile ground is created for the better self-awareness of the treated person and his more active participation in the treatment. 

Let us not forget that the patient is responsible for his treatment. By taking responsibility for his symptom, he can decode the communication messages with his body and be safely led to cure.

Have you ever been to the dentist to treat a tooth and gum symptom only to have it returned multiple times? 

It is a common situation that we all may face. 

There are cases of people who may visit the dentist for years to treat a specific symptom. After one treatment, the sign disappeared. And yet, sometime later, it appears again. 

In such situations, we may jump to conclusions such as: 

“I have sensitive teeth/gums.” 

Other times, we may associate it with the fact that it is hereditary, that one of our parents is like that, such as: 

“I’m prone to gingivitis, like my father.” 

The truth, most of the time, is much deeper than that. 

Why do the teeth still have caries, inflammation, gingivitis, or abscesses and do not improve despite all the repeated efforts of the therapist? What can be holding us back from taking steps toward our improvement? 

What is resistance?

The term resistance describes the maintenance of the symptom by the patient as a defense against the emergence of his internal conflict. As long as this internal conflict exists, related to traumatic experiences of our life, the human subconscious will not allow any treatment, no matter how many visits to the therapist. Teeth are associated with the stages of our psycho-emotional development and reflect all aspects of our lives and relationships. 

Why do we resist healing?

We have learned to see and accept the attractive parts of ourselves more easily. To proceed with the repair and healing, however, we need to face that side of our personality that contains our darkest points, unacceptable ones, or those we do not know how to deal with. 

Most people find it challenging to connect the symptom with the psycho-emotional causes. This results in them seeking only medical help, focusing exclusively on the search for the organic causes of the appearing condition. 

Usually, the symptom is initially created unconsciously, for example, as a body reaction to a stressful event. Then, gradually gaining weight due to its connection with our traumas and beliefs is a new way of communicating and expressing the individual with himself and his environment. 

This pattern of behavior that man adopts, if he does not recognize, understand and accept it, reproduces it in his life and everyday life. 

Family Therapy offers a holistic perspective in understanding psychosomatic symptoms by shifting the focus of attention from the sign to the broader family system to which the individual belongs. 

The symptom carried by the individual seems to function as a danger signal indicating that the entire family system is in a situation where its safety and balance are threatened. With the appropriate therapeutic interventions, however, somebody can identify repetitive and dysfunctional communication patterns between family members while seeking their internal structure, flexibility, and smooth adaptability to the environment they belong to and interact with. 

The thought of every patient in pain is usually to relieve their pain. But it is equally important to know what is causing his pain, to see the cause. 

The therapeutic relationship between doctor and patient

The treatment progress is affected when the doctor and patient don’t build a solid therapeutic relationship of trust between them. Some client behaviors are interpreted as resistance to any therapeutic journey. For example: 

• Not to come to the session. 
• Be late 
• Not paying normally 
• To disparage the therapist or therapy in general 

Resistance is the client’s way of showing us where he “hurts” deeply, and references to his pain lead him to find the deep cause of his condition. This meaning of resistance allows us to use it as a “vehicle for change. 

It is suitable for the therapist to recognize in the first phase what makes it difficult for the patient to see the presented obstacles and propose new coping methods. 

In this way and with respect for the person, fertile ground is created for the better self-awareness of the treated person and his more active participation in the treatment. 

Let us not forget that the patient is responsible for his treatment. By taking responsibility for his symptom, he can decode the communication messages with his body and be safely led to cure.

The fact is that our visit to the dentist is only sometimes pleasant. 

But why is this happened  and how can it be changed?  

Did you know about it? 

Did you know that the experience of fear is imprinted in our DNA from the primitive period of human evolution? It has proven life-saving in dealing with survival situations involving food gathering, natural hazards, disasters and wars, invasions of other races, and reproduction. 

In these threat situations, survival instincts are mobilized. They are genetically programmed tendencies that are related to the unconscious part of the brain and, when mobilized, result in certain behaviours such as: 

• Fight: Need to attack. 
• Flight: Wanting to flee the place/situation we are in. 
• Numbness: Physical, in the body, or mental. Suddenly, we can’t react.
• Emotional disconnect. 
• Tendency to vomit. 
• Fainting. 
• Surrender: We surrender the weapons. 

So when a person experiences a threat, these automatic tendencies become active. They then set the stage for intense emotions, blockages, and symptoms to express themselves in the physical body. 

This is precisely what happens when we feel fear during a dental visit. 

What does the dentist have to do with it? 

The dentist is a reflection of our parents’ care and guardianship. They care for our teeth as our parents cared for us in childhood by fulfilling our needs for safety, nourishment, warmth, love, and support. 

The dentist enters the mouth, representing an intensely charged private space connected to our development and vital functions.  

Strong emotions associated with early childhood, such as: 

• Oppression 
• Violence 
• Rejection 
• Physical or verbal abuse 
• Abandonment or verbal abuse may re-emerge during treatment and mobilize survival instincts that, in turn, block the therapeutic process.
   

A person who feels betrayed or did not receive adequate care from their parents tends to replicate a similar experience in their relationship with their dentist.  

How many people aren’t desperately searching for the ideal dentist who will take on the task of restoring their teeth and smile? The persistence or anger accompanying some of their demands on the treating dentist indicates that patients expect too much from them. 

It is natural and comforting to hope that by opening our mouths, the dentist will heal and relieve us of pain. We are justified in seeking the care of a competent and skillful dentist.

But are we not aware that the dentist who takes us on reflects our relationship with our parents, the traumas of our childhood, the choices we make, and the way we treat ourselves?  

The person who is suffering from problems with their teeth will seek a dentist who will try to save their teeth. 

But will there be a savior dentist or does the treatment start with the patient first?

The way each person  approaches the treatment is crucial. Finding a “good” dentist requires understanding how we treat ourselves and accepting to look pain in the face without running away.  

Often, just changing our behavior and the realizations we make brings a trusted person on our path who will help us with understanding and respect. Is it luck or coincidence? 

Are we ready to care for our wounds and attract the appropriate healing dentist?

If we remain locked into self-destructive patterns, we attract dentists who treat us poorly or leave us dissatisfied. Consequently, the dentist turns from savior to tormentor, and we experience a victim – perpetrator relationship. 

A medical error does not happen accidentally, even if it results from the dentist’s clumsiness or negligence. It performs a tension related to our experiences and beliefs.  

In some ways, the medical error is similar to the trauma that surfaces to remind us of our experience as children with rejection, the violation of our boundaries, abuse, and our desperate need for love, support, and respect. 

Through their relationship with the dentist, the patient tries to settle accounts with his parents, father, or mother. 

Do these emotions we feel in visiting the dentist, and our expectations for restoration help us connect with our inner self? 

Have you ever wondered if they might help us realize what acceptance and healing mean at all levels of our being? 

Can we choose the appropriate dental therapist and build a relationship of trust and mutual respect? 

The premise above will lead us from accepting and loving ourselves to healing and restoring abnormal conditions in our mouths. 

In this article, I want to refer to the thoughts and why I wrote my second book, “The secret language of teeth. How how our physical and psychological health is mapped out in our teeth.” 

My second book arose out of my therapeutic experience with all my patient-clients. 

I began delving into healing through my training in trauma management and my healing journey. I began to strongly feel the need to talk about the stages of human psychosocial development and the traumas created during childhood. 

Thus, I examine and connect our experiences and feelings during teeth eruption at certain ages. Something that I want to be evident through my book on the “Secret Language of teeth” is something that I also write in the description of it: 

“Each tooth has its symbolic meaning. Examining the teeth through the stages of the psycho-emotional development of the individual during the fetal life of childhood and adolescence as well as adulthood, we get a lot of information about their secret language and how they express themselves as a dynamic micro-system of the body.” 

Our teeth act as remote warehouses and have much-stored information from our life and development, relationships, experiences, and family status. 

Thus, when we study their behaviour patterns and pathologies, we are essentially investigating our position within the systems of our relationships and the interpretations we give to the events of our lives from this position. 

There may not be any connection in our minds. Still, in practice, the psycho-emotional dimension of our oral cavity proves something essential: Any imbalance that affects our mental and physical health is reflected as a resounding message in our teeth and gums. 

Thus, our mouth becomes a crystal clear mirror of our inner world and every interpretation we have given of how things and relationships in life are. From there, what we have to do to change the flow of events is to decipher the message, understand the dimension and how we have understood the circumstances and traumas of the past, and change the narrative we have about them. 

By changing the narrative, we change our interpretation. Thus, we can recreate the course of our lives. Through this, we also play the history of our teeth. 

By completing this book, you will understand how the condition of your teeth and gums is connected to possible traumas imprinted on the body from the first years of your life. Thus, you can holistically perceive the causes leading to the potential symptoms you are experiencing. 

Through the holistic treatment of each symptom, you will be able to free yourself from the diseases you face in your oral cavity and understand the reasons that led you there.

An abscess on the gums and teeth is a painful condition and usually has the following characteristics: 

• Edema (swelling) in the area 
• Severe pain when chewing 
• Discharge of pus 

• Bad taste when chewing 
• Redness and severe swelling of the gums in the problematic tooth region 

Pus is a fluid that results from inflammation. It consists of decomposing white blood cells, dead bacteria, and tissue breakdown products produced during the body’s defense against infection. 

Pus can collect in a cavity, creating an abscess.

The abscess is the result of a war, a struggle of the organism to manage its internal conflicts, a battle with many victims and destruction involving the cells and their environment, the tissues and organs of the body. 

It indicates an inability to resolve our issues, obsessive ideas, inability to forgive, bitterness and resentment, and intense emotions that accumulate inside us without expression and make us sick.

But how is depression related to abscess?

The depressed person feels sadness, despair, and anxiety and shows significant changes in the body’s normal functioning. Those changes contain a reduced metabolic rate, gastrointestinal dysfunction, dry mouth, and changes in all bodily functions under neurohormonal control, resulting in the body not being able to perform its vital functions harmoniously.

The depressed person subconsciously believes that some threat to their health is imminent. 

Thus they withdraw to protect themselves from their intense internal emotions (usually fear, anger), which they do not express but suppress, and this action also blocks their functions on a physical and psycho-emotional level. The above is often depicted physically in chronic inflammation, energy blockages, and tooth and gum abscesses. 

Physical symptoms of depression

The depressed patient usually comes from a family with a history of depression, high expectations, and low self-esteem that has been passed down from generation to generation. Death or separation from a parent when the patient is young is also a common feature of the history.

Depression from the perspective of Traditional Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that a disruption in the body’s movement and flow of energy causes all disorders. According to this approach, depression is due to the blockage of the flow of energy, qi, to the liver, the organ for managing our emotions.

The liver is the organ most affected by stress or emotions. Anger is an emotion associated with the liver. If you: 

• Are irritable, 
• Get angry easily 
• Have angry outbursts, 
• Find it difficult to relax, 

Then it is very likely that you have a functional liver problem.
Anger affects the liver resulting in stagnation of energy. The primary function of this organ is to regulate the flow of energy and blood in the body. The liver is associated with anger, depression, dissatisfaction, frustration, irritability, bitterness, and rage. 

Imbalances in liver function are associated with period pains, headache, irritability, dizziness, dry eyes, dry mouth, increased inflammation in the mouth and gums, and tendonitis.

Our oral health is significantly affected by stressful situations. In these cases, it is essential to recognize and understand the cause that causes us.
 

In conclusion

We can try to treat the terminal symptom and engage in a perpetual cycle of treatments that temporarily relieve a recurring symptom. 

On the other hand, we can go to the root of our issue and discover what our body wants to tell us by decoding its communication language, i.e., its symptoms. When we listen with understanding and love, we can embrace the hurt. Afterward, the wound heals, and the body and mouth no longer have reason to hurt. Thus, we treat both the symptom and the root of the problem that led us there.

In this article, I want to refer to my thoughts and why I wrote my first book, “What our teeth say about us. The Holistic dimension of dentistry.” 

The book’s primary purpose is for its readers to know and understand the holistic way of thinking in dental treatment. The holistic way of thinking is significant because it broadens the perspective of everything you observe. 

My journey led me to holistic thinking through Chinese medicine and acupuncture, my first holistic medicine training. I then followed my training in the bioregulation of the body’s systems ( systemic regulation medicine,) which opened my horizons to systemic thinking. At the same time, all this was progressing with my healing journey. 

Through my problems and the ways I discovered along the way for my treatment, I began to interpret the perception of myself differently and how it affects my health status. Most people had strong emotional reactions such as crying or grimacing, arm and leg movements and breathing changes. 

Thus, gradually, I began to understand and connect dental diseases with their psycho-emotional dimension in a more profound interpretation. 

Conscious observation led me to write my first book. The purpose is to enable the reader to study every symptom he has in his teeth and gums through his holistic perspective. This way, he can hear what the sign says about his overall health and why it has appeared. 

When we listen to the symptom, we can heal holistically, meaning in body, mind, and soul.
